Southeast Asian staff coordinating SEADLinG are inspired by the sweetness of the program, how touching it is to witness Khmer elders intentionally share stories with young people in ways that they have not experienced before. The garden is a place for intergenerational healing, work that has been integral to CERI’s approach to support children and teens with blooming into thriving adults and parents. One of the great joys of community work is meeting the children of people who we first met as youth. Ready and resourced to guide our young people in the lifelong work of healing, our empowered Khmer elders are coming into their leadership more and more. Now we are guided on our journey by listening to stories from our elders. Healing with the earth, here, on land that was taken, on land that is burdened with climate crisis, on land that honors Indigenous and Black resilience, on land that invites us to tell our stories, too. As we all struggle with the complicated conditions of this time and sense resistance to social change across the country, we do the work of intergenerational healing with the earth as an adaptive act of hope for our future.
