That’s one of CERI’s superpowers - community that spans generations. Our Board Member Tina Sar reminds us of this strength. As the daughter of Cambodian refugees, Tina grew up in Oakland and has seen her parents find strength and healing at CERI. Over the years, as CERI community members have been threatened with deportation, they have shown up as a family alongside hundreds of others to protect and defend those most at risk. Tina says: “The elders, my parents and grandparents, are on the steps of Capital Hill - they are out protesting and signing petitions. It took them many baby steps, but through their courage, we have seen the fruits of their hard work successfully stop deportations. What would have happened to those at risk if they hadn’t shown up all together? It was strength in numbers.”
