This month, we will host our first in-person fundraiser since the pandemic began!! We would love to see you there!! These past two years have tested our resolve. At CERI, what we see over and over again is that coming together to talk, laugh, listen to stories, enjoy food, and connect heart to heart, help us to keep going and stay committed to the struggle for justice. Please join us for Refugee Voices on Saturday, September 17th, from 4-7pm at Oakstop in Oakland. We will honor resilience and survival of people who came to the US as refugees. Through three short documentaries we will take you on a journey, where, together, we can listen to stories about refugees coming to the US, the trials of resettlement, and the challenges of deportees and their families. There will be delicious food and drinks, representing flavors from across the globe, including: Cambodian, Thai, Tibetan, Burmese, Indian, Latinx and African foods. We will hear from an amazing lineup of panelists who identify as refugees themselves; who have powerful stories and films to share. Among the panelists will be Chanthon Bun and Borey “Peejay” Ai, Wellness Outreach Workers with CERI’s New Light Program. Bun and Peejay, who both identify as 1.5 generation Khmer, are important role models for us, demonstrating how we transform our communities when we transform ourselves.
