Women Leading Across Generations

Women’s History Month is coming to a close, but we will keep celebrating women all day every day! We are so proud of the powerful women in our community.

This week, Kanley, Unbreakable Roots Program Manager, will be honored at Devata Giving Circle’s International Women’s Day Event on March 29th. Next week, Sreyneang, Community Pathways to Healthy Aging Program Coordinator, will support young women in the youth-led Khmer Youth Dance Troupe who will perform at the 13th Annual Oakland Khmer New Year Festival at Peralta Hacienda Historical Park on April 5th. Then on April 22nd, Sophal, Community Outreach Worker, will speak at Threads of Memory; Bridges of Silk, an intergenerational event in remembrance of 50 years since the genocide hosted by the Khmer Students Association of Berkeley.

As we mark 50 years since the Khmer Rouge genocide, witnessing Cambodian women leading across generations inspires us to keep going. To keep doing our work in spite of ongoing attacks on refugee and immigrant communities. To keep learning history and building multicultural coalitions to protect human rights. To keep celebrating cultural traditions and the diversity of our communities. 

We hope you will join us at upcoming events to honor local Khmer Cambodian community - to honor ancestors who were lost, recognize the strength of survivors, and celebrate community resilience, including the women who lead the way.
