Healing Across Generations

Honoring AANHPI Heritage & Mental Health Awareness Month

May is a powerful month at CERI.

We honor both Mental Health Awareness Month and Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month by uplifting the truth that healing happens in community - across generations, through culture, and by showing up for one another.

This month, we’ve witnessed meaningful moments of connection, empowerment, and cultural pride across our communities.

CERI’s Cambodian youth, who formed @khmeramathakdancetroupe, performed at San Francisco City Hall’s APA Heritage Gala — celebrating culture and the power of young leadership.

Just across the bridge, CERI’s Nepali youth, who recently launched their own dance group, were also recognized - honored by Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis at the County’s 40th Annual AANHPI Commemorative Celebration.

These moments reflect something central to CERI’s mission: mental health is not achieved in isolation, it is deeply connected to culture, belonging, and community care. Healing happens when elders gather in language, when youth express themselves creatively, and when communities feel seen, supported, and valued.

AANHPI individuals are often among the least likely to seek mental health support due to cultural stigma and systemic barriers to care. Many people experiencing PTSD, anxiety, depression, and the lasting impacts of trauma carry these burdens alone.

CERI has worked to change this reality for the last 20 years, and as we celebrate two decades of service we hope you will join us.

This month, we are participating in the Give In May campaign to uplift AANHPI mental health and sustain community healing programs, including support groups, trauma-informed therapy, youth and elder programming, wellness activities, and care management services.

Every act of support helps strengthen spaces where healing, culture, and connection can continue to thrive.

We invite you to celebrate our 20th year during this especially meaningful month by investing in care that is community-rooted and culturally grounded.
