Aaron Jurell Sarmiento

Social Work Intern

Aaron Jurell Dela Cruz Sarmiento is a First-Generation Filipino-American with Aeta Indigenous roots, born and raised in Oakland, California. He’s a Master of Social Work intern dedicated to supporting youth and communities impacted by systemic inequities and trauma.

Aaron has worked closely with children in Intensive Services Foster Care (ISFC), youth in individual counseling, and group settings focused on emotional growth and healing. His work centers on strength-based, culturally rooted, and emotionally intelligent programming, supporting BIPOC youth and communities in building self-awareness, healthy relationships, and a deeper connection to their identities and stories.

Rooted in an intergenerational and culturally conscious practice, Aaron believes in the strength, wisdom, and resilience of marginalized communities. He’s dedicated to creating spaces that nurture early intervention and collective healing. Outside of his work, what helps him stay grounded and connected are spending time with family, traveling, playing guitar, hiking, camping, reading, and training in Muay Thai.
