Anny Kwak

MSW Intern

Anny is a second-generation Korean American, born and raised in the Bay Area. She is pursuing

a Master of Social Work at Cal State East Bay with an emphasis in Community Mental Health.

Postgraduate studies, she will commit her social work practice to meeting the access needs of

transitional-aged youth and young adults living in under-resourced and system-impacted

communities.

Before interning at CERI, Anny was a health advocate for San Francisco General Hospital

Trauma Center. There, she had the opportunity to serve immigrant and refugee families whose

immediate concerns were physical safety, housing, and food insecurity. However, she also

witnessed the critical need for psychiatric rehabilitation for these patients. As she saw

socioeconomic barriers preventing immigrant and refugee families from accessing such

healthcare services, she developed an urgent charge to bridge these families to culturally

responsive and attuned mental health treatment plans via mutual aid. She is honored to be a part

of the CERI team, where she can contribute to their active mission of health equity for the

mental, social, and emotional well-being of immigrants and refugees.

For fun, Anny enjoys knitting, writing, and playing cello.
